From May 22 to July 31, 2022, a themed exhibition will be held in the upper room of Museum Valkenburg with members of the Limburg Art Circle in collaboration with. Refugee Work Foundation  South Netherlands. With this exhibition, the artists want to show that, in addition to their artistic ambitions, they are also involved in social problems. There are a number of special works on display that are the result of research into the refugee and homeless problem and the visual design of the theme ‘Homeless’.

The artists in Museum Valkenburg show a diversity of disciplines such as; painting, etching, graphics, ceramics, video and sculpture. The theme mainly focuses on acceptance, empathy and understanding for refugees and homeless people. The result is a variety of associations and artistic views on ‘imagining’ vulnerable people in a globalized society. With an exhibition about people who (have to) flee, artists can perhaps offer a moral counterweight to indiscriminate expressions and the often intolerant attitude towards refugees and homeless people and thus make a positive contribution to the public debate. Art and culture may also bring some relief to the situation of refugees, if we are to believe that these are positive forces that affect people and perhaps make them think for a while. An exhibition such as ‘Homeless’ can be seen as an additional medium to make the stories and experiences of refugees ‘visible’, perhaps evoking more empathy for vulnerable people in our society.
