In this section “Art in house” we always highlight a work of art that is in our museum’s possession.

In the Geul Room on the middle floor of our museum, the visitor will find a painting by Gèr Huntjens. The work shows the meandering Geul.

Huntjens spent his childhood in Oud-Valkenburg and sketched it out at a young age. The pastor of Oud-Valkenburg noticed his talent and paid for his education at the City Academy in Maastricht. He made the painting in the Geul Room at the age of 16.

After his education at the Jan van Eyck Academy, he grew into a versatile artist, who never pushed himself to the fore.

In 2017 a well-attended retrospective of our mainly surrealist paintings took place in our museum.
