In the upper room of Museum Valkenburg is an exhibition with ceramic work by Rob Stultiens (1922 – 2002), a pupil of Charles Vos at the Secondary Applied Arts School in Maastricht. Rob continued his studies with Piet Esser at the National Academy of Visual Arts in Amsterdam (1946-1948) and with Oscar Jespers at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht.

His versatile oeuvre includes sculptures, monumental work, but also small ceramic sculptures. He called his work “Rob Art”. And, as the Limburg poet Leo Herberghs translated his romantic longings into poetry in his collection of poetry “With earthen fingers”, “Rob Stultiens wrote” his own ceramic book; a “lyrical collection of poems from earth”. An interesting selection from his poetic, small ceramic work is displayed in the glass showcases in the upper room.

The exhibition of Rob Stultiens can still be seen until September 20, look for info at: https://www.museumvalkenburg.nl/en/agenda/janneke-laheij-and-rob-stultiens/
